Provost Umphrey Stadium, Football stadium in Beaumont, United States.
Provost Umphrey Stadium is a football stadium on the campus of Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. It has an artificial turf field, a modern scoreboard, and seating for around 15,000 people across covered and open stands.
The stadium opened in 1964 as Cardinal Stadium and served as the home ground for Lamar University for decades. In 2008 it was renamed after the Provost Umphrey law firm made a major donation to the university.
The stadium is the center of football life at Lamar University, drawing students, families, and fans from across the region. On game days, the campus fills with people who share a long connection to the university.
The stadium sits on the Lamar University campus along South Martin Luther King Jr Parkway and is easy to reach by car, with parking nearby. The venue is accessible for wheelchair users, and food stands are spread around the seating areas.
During the 2009 renovation, load-bearing structures were added that would allow the stadium to expand to up to 28,000 seats without rebuilding the foundations. This preparation is invisible from the outside but makes the building ready for future growth.
