Mary and John Gray Library

Mary and John Gray Library, University library at Lamar University in Beaumont, United States

Mary and John Gray Library is an eight-story university library located on the Lamar University campus in Beaumont, housing extensive collections of books and periodicals arranged by the Library of Congress classification system. The building includes multiple floors of shelving, study areas, and resource centers designed to serve students and researchers.

The library opened on April 26, 1976, following a dedication ceremony with state officials present. It was built as part of Lamar University's campus development to serve the academic needs of students and faculty.

The seventh floor holds three named rooms honoring important Texas figures, each space reflecting the state's heritage and serving as quiet study areas for students.

The facility can accommodate around 850 students and offers study rooms, computer workstations, and service desks throughout the building. Visitors should expect busier periods during typical class times and may want to arrive early for preferred study spots.

The library underwent approval for major improvements and modernization starting in 2021, refreshing its technology and facilities to better serve current student needs. This investment demonstrates the campus commitment to maintaining contemporary learning spaces.
