Six Flags New Orleans, Abandoned amusement park in East New Orleans, United States.
Six Flags New Orleans is an abandoned amusement park in East New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. The site contains rusted roller coasters, empty concession stands, and carnival rides overgrown with plants.
The grounds opened in 2000 as Jazzland and were taken over by Six Flags in 2002. Hurricane Katrina flooded the park with several meters of water in 2005, leading to permanent closure.
The site serves as a backdrop for film crews working on major productions that use the decaying rides as scenery. Teams have shot action movie scenes here, with the abandoned structures standing in as dystopian landscapes.
The grounds are closed to the public and protected by fences and security patrols. Access is not allowed without permission, as the structures are unsafe and wild animals inhabit the area.
After the storm, many alligators settled in the flooded pools and rides. The animals had to be caught before film crews could use the grounds.
