Almonaster Avenue Bridge, Railway and road bascule bridge in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The Almonaster Avenue Bridge spans across the Industrial Canal with two vehicle lanes and two railroad tracks, enabling transportation between neighborhoods.
Constructed in 1919, the bridge was among the first four bridges built by the Port of New Orleans to facilitate railroad access across the Industrial Canal.
The bridge formed part of the Old Spanish Trail, which served as the primary eastern exit route from New Orleans in the early 1900s.
The bridge currently operates primarily in the raised position due to Hurricane Katrina's impact, lowering only for railroad traffic crossing the Industrial Canal.
The structure provides an 83-foot horizontal clearance and unlimited vertical clearance when fully retracted, accommodating large vessels passing underneath.
