Kirby–Smith Hall, Former residence hall at Louisiana State University, United States
Kirby-Smith Hall was a 13-story residence building at Louisiana State University. It housed hundreds of students in double-occupancy rooms, each with a private bathroom and access to shared living spaces throughout the structure.
The building opened in 1965 and served students for more than 50 years before closing in 2022. During its final decade, it occasionally functioned as temporary lodging for visiting state officials.
The residence hall housed over 20,000 students during its operational period from 1967 to 2022, shaping university life experiences.
Visitors cannot enter this location as the structure was fully demolished in 2022. The site now sits as vacant land within the university campus.
Rather than using explosives to bring down the structure, workers dismantled it methodically using heavy machinery that reached each floor. This careful approach to demolition preserved the surrounding campus areas from unnecessary disruption over a three-month period.
