Gulfport Veterans Administration Medical Center Historic District

Gulfport Veterans Administration Medical Center Historic District is a former medical facility complex featuring ten buildings constructed from concrete, terra cotta brick, stucco, and decorative tile roofs. The site spans approximately 48 acres and displays Spanish Colonial Revival architecture throughout.

The complex initially served as a Navy training facility during World War I before being repurposed as a Veterans Administration medical center in the 1920s. It continued operating until 2005 when a hurricane caused significant damage and led to its closure.

The Spanish Colonial Revival style defines the visual character of the district with its stucco walls, clay tile roofs, and ornamental details across all structures. This consistent architectural language creates a cohesive and recognizable environment throughout the complex.

The site is now accessible as Centennial Plaza Resort with accommodations, dining options, and recreational facilities available for visitors. Exploring during daylight hours allows you to fully appreciate the architecture and grounds.
