The University of West Alabama is a public institution spread across 600 acres with a 54-acre lake, nature trails, and academic buildings housing programs in mathematics, science, nursing, and education. The institution originated in 1835 as Livingston Female Academy before becoming a normal college in 1878. It adopted its current name in 1995.
