Jesús María, Residential district in metropolitan Lima, Peru
Jesús María is an administrative district in central Lima bordered by Pueblo Libre, Breña, downtown Lima, Lince, San Isidro, and Magdalena del Mar. It holds government ministries for aeronautics, navy, and public health, along with major hospitals and schools throughout its area.
President Fernando Belaúnde Terry established this district as independent in December 1963, separating it from central Lima's administration. This creation allowed the area to develop its own identity and infrastructure as a distinct urban zone.
The Natural History Museum draws visitors interested in fossils, minerals, and animal displays that show Peru's wildlife and geological past. Locals and tourists pass through to understand the country's natural diversity without focusing on any single theme.
Most visitors come for the museums and public buildings spread across the district, which are accessible on foot. Good street connections and regular bus services make it easy to move between different sites in the area.
The San Felipe housing development was built on the grounds of a former racetrack, introducing high-rise apartments and townhouses to the area. This conversion transformed the zone from a sports venue into a residential neighborhood.
