Oxapampa Province

Oxapampa Province extends from the eastern slopes of the Andes Mountains to the Amazon Basin lowlands, covering diverse ecological zones between 200 and 5300 meters elevation.

Three hundred Tyrolean and Prussian settlers arrived in 1857 at Callao port, later establishing communities that formed the foundation of the Oxapampa Province in 1944.

The province maintains Tyrolean architectural elements throughout its settlements, reflecting the heritage of Austrian and German colonizers who arrived during the nineteenth century.

The province contains eight districts including Chontabamba, Constitución, Huancabamba, Oxapampa, Palcazú, Pozuzo, Puerto Bermúdez, and Villa Rica, each with distinct administrative functions.

The Cerro de la Sal, located in Villa Rica District, functions as a primary salt source for local indigenous communities within the province.
