The territory spans 88,199 square kilometers between the Paraná and Uruguay rivers, featuring extensive wetlands, plains, channels, lakes, and subtropical marshes.

Spanish navigator Sebastian Gaboto first encountered this region in 1527 while exploring the Paraná River, leading to the establishment of settlements.

The province maintains two official languages, Spanish and Guaraní, reflecting the enduring influence of indigenous populations throughout the northeastern region.

The Yacyretá Dam on the Paraná River generates substantial hydroelectric power for both Argentina and Paraguay through a joint operational agreement.

The territory includes the Iberá Wetlands, which cover 25 percent of the province with interconnected water bodies forming South America's second-largest wetland system.
