Villa Hayes

Villa Hayes is an administrative district stretching along the north bank of the Paraguay River in the Chaco region. The area combines rural land and industrial zones, positioned several dozen kilometers from the national capital.

The area was named in 1879 after United States President Rutherford B. Hayes, replacing its earlier identity as a Jesuit mission from the 1780s. These colonial religious foundations established the first patterns of settlement in the region.

The area is home to indigenous communities, Mennonite settlements, and local Paraguayan families who maintain distinct ways of life. This mixture of groups shapes how the place feels and how residents practice their customs today.

The area is connected to Asunción via Road IX Carlos Antonio López with regular bus services available for travel. Visitors should expect fewer services and amenities in outlying areas, so planning ahead is important.

The district is home to ACEPAR, Paraguay's primary steel manufacturing plant, which plays a major role in the nation's industrial output. This large-scale facility shows how the country has developed industry beyond its capital city.
