Castle Kyalami, building in South Africa
Castle Kyalami is a hotel set on roughly 22 acres of land with fortress-like architecture and towers. The building contains guest rooms, a restaurant, a swimming pool, gym, sauna, tennis court, and spa facilities with modern amenities throughout.
A Greek architect named Demos Dinopoulos built the castle in the early 1990s as a private family home. After about nine years, the estate was sold and converted into a luxury hotel with 24 suites, before eventually being purchased by the Church of Scientology.
Castle Kyalami was designed to resemble a storybook fortress with towers and walls reminiscent of medieval structures. This architectural choice has shaped how people perceive and experience the building as a distinctive landmark.
The hotel is easily accessible from Johannesburg and sits in a quiet, private setting away from the busy city center. The facilities are designed to be wheelchair accessible, but pets are not permitted.
The building was originally built as a luxury private residence with horse stables and a yacht workshop, features unusual for a home. These industrial and rural components were later converted into spaces for business events and meetings.
