Extreme 19th, Par 3 golf hole at Legend Golf & Safari Resort, Limpopo Province, South Africa
Extreme 19th is a Par 3 golf hole located at the summit of Hanglip Mountain in Limpopo Province, spanning 400 meters in vertical drop and 361 meters horizontally across the landscape. The tee sits at an elevated position overlooking the green far below on the African terrain.
The hole was developed in the early 2000s as a collaborative project by Peet and Mart Cilliers with golf architects Graham Cooke and David Riddle. It became part of the Legend Golf & Safari Resort expansion within the Entabeni Safari Conservancy.
The green takes the form of Africa, a design choice that speaks to the continental setting and creates a recognizable landmark on the course.
A helicopter ride is required to reach the elevated tee position on the mountain. Players receive six attempts to complete the shot on the distant green.
Golf balls take around 50 seconds to descend from the tee to the green below. Only about 14 players have managed to score a birdie since the hole opened, reflecting its extreme difficulty.
