Cascade Biberon, Waterfall in La Plaine-des-Palmistes, Reunion Island, France
Cascade Biberon is a waterfall located in La Plaine-des-Palmistes on Reunion Island, dropping around 250 meters into a natural pool surrounded by dense forest and native plants. The fall is set within a highland region covered with tropical vegetation.
The waterfall gets its name from a former officer in the Waters and Forests administration who owned the surrounding land during the colonial period of Reunion's highlands. This naming reflects the historical connection between European management and the landscape.
The path to Cascade Biberon received recognition as part of the Top Sentiers Marmailles, marking its status among regional hiking destinations.
The path to this waterfall follows a round-trip hiking route through forested terrain that takes roughly an hour to complete and involves a moderate elevation gain. Wear proper hiking shoes and bring water, as the trail can be steep and wet in sections.
During harvest season between May and August, hikers can find ripe guavas growing along the trail and pick fruit as they walk. This turns the hike into an edible experience where visitors gather snacks during their journey.
