Mascarin jardin botanique de La Réunion

Mascarin is a botanical garden covering approximately 13 hectares with eight different plant collections showing species native to the island, tropical fruit trees, and bamboo formations. The separate sections are laid out across pathways that guide visitors through various plant zones.

The garden was founded in 2014 and sits on the grounds of a former agricultural estate that operated since 1857. The property changed from farming use to a space focused on plant collection and education.

The garden shows the island's heritage through exhibitions in restored buildings that reflect local architectural traditions. Visitors see artworks and displays about how people have connected with this landscape.

The garden is easy to explore on foot since the different sections are connected by clearly marked pathways. It is best to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water, especially if you plan to spend several hours walking through the grounds.

The garden features specialized collections including a collection of heritage roses, coffee plants from around the world, and a striking bamboo section that resembles a cathedral space. These areas reveal lesser-explored aspects of the island's plant life and its global connections.
