Chissioua Bandrélé, Uninhabited island in Mayotte, France

Chissioua Bandrélé is an uninhabited island that rises 51 meters above sea level and features sandy beaches, rocky points, and small coves surrounded by coral reefs. The coastline offers varied landscapes that attract visitors exploring the marine environment.

The island previously supported agricultural activities and goat farming before it became a protected natural reserve within the Mayotte Marine Park. This transformation marks a shift from human use to nature conservation.

The island serves as a nesting ground for the Comoros swift, which nests only on this islet within Mayotte. Bird watchers can observe these rare seabirds in their natural habitat here.

Three mooring buoys allow boats to anchor safely near the island, which lies 2.5 kilometers from Plage De Sakouli. The location is accessible by kayak, offering visitors a peaceful approach across the water.

The endangered Mayotte snake inhabits the island, making it a crucial location for preserving this critically threatened species. Protecting this reptile population remains a primary reason for the reserve status.
