Balangan

Balangan is an administrative regency in South Kalimantan situated in mountainous terrain and river valleys. The region is organized into eight districts with Paringin serving as its administrative center.

The region was established as an independent administrative entity in 2003 by separating from areas of North Hulu Sungai Regency. This creation marked a significant administrative change in South Kalimantan.

Local communities practice Banjarese traditions in their daily life and through traditional crafts. This cultural identity shows in how villagers live together and pass skills down to younger generations.

Visitors should know the region is spread across mountains and river valleys with variable weather conditions. The best time to explore is during drier months when road access and movement are easier.

The region receives heavy rainfall during the wet season, supporting a lush rainforest with rich biodiversity. This wet climate keeps the landscape green and wild, but also makes it hard to reach during peak months.
