Inchcolm, Spring Hill

Inchcolm is a five-story red brick building on Wickham Terrace featuring Georgian design elements and detailed rendered accents across its exterior. The interior arranges medical offices around a central corridor that extends through multiple floors.

Dr. John Thomson established the original building in the 1880s as his residence and consulting rooms. The property later became a hub for specialized medical practices throughout Brisbane.

The building shows how specialist medical practices grew in Brisbane, with many doctors running their offices from these suites over the twentieth century. You can see from the layout and furnishings how physicians organized their work during that era.

The building sits along Wickham Terrace and is easy to locate on this main street. Its original internal structure with the central corridor remains well preserved, making navigation straightforward.

The ground floor lobby preserves 1930s details such as cut bevelled glass doors and dark-stained silky oak panels. The ornate plaster ceiling reflects the craftsmanship of that decade.
