Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort & Club, hotel in Dana Point, United States
The Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort & Club is a large hotel on a 175-acre property perched on a Pacific Ocean cliff in Dana Point. The property includes five restaurants, three pools, an 18-hole Scottish-style golf course, and a spa, with buildings spread out across the grounds to provide privacy and space.
The resort was built in 2001 on the site of the former Monarch Bay and operated as a St. Regis property for many years. In 2021, it became part of the Waldorf Astoria collection under Hilton Hotels, bringing the property to higher luxury standards.
The resort takes its name from the Monarch butterfly that migrates along the California coast. Butterfly motifs appear throughout the property, from hiking trails to small details in the rooms, connecting guests with local wildlife and the region's natural heritage.
The location is about a half hour from the nearest airport and easily accessible by car. Self-parking is not available on the property, but valet parking is offered, and guests can use a shuttle service to navigate the sprawling resort grounds.
The resort offers exclusive access to the private Monarch Bay Beach Club, where guests can watch paddleboards through underwater windows and enjoy evening movie nights and live music by the fire. This secluded beach area feels separate from the main grounds yet easily reached by tram.
