Black Canyon City, Census-designated place in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States.
Black Canyon City extends across 20 square miles of desert landscape at an elevation of 610 meters north of Phoenix, intersected by Interstate 17.
The settlement originated in the 1870s when Jack Swilling established residence there, and the first post office opened under the name Cañon in 1894.
The community maintains two recreational spaces, Black Canyon Heritage Park and High Desert Park, where residents gather for outdoor activities and environmental education.
Students attend schools within three districts: Cañon Elementary, Mayer Unified, and Deer Valley Unified for high school education.
The local water systems underwent substantial modifications to address natural arsenic levels that exceeded federal standards in Yavapai County wells.
