Biltmore Hotel, National Historic Landmark hotel in Coral Gables, United States.
The Biltmore Hotel is a five-star property in Coral Gables, Florida, distinguished by its 96-meter tower modeled after the Giralda of Seville. The complex combines Mediterranean architecture with historic character and spreads across landscaped gardens with palms and water features.
The property opened its doors in 1926 and was then considered the tallest building in Florida. Between 1942 and 1968 it served as a military hospital and returned to its original use only decades later.
The property takes its name from the famous Vanderbilt estate in North Carolina. Public spaces today host regular social events that continue the tradition of serving as a meeting point for local society.
Guided tours explain the architecture and changing uses of the building. The golf course and dining facilities are also open to day visitors.
The swimming pool covers 2,100 square meters (23,000 square feet) and ranks among the largest hotel pools in the continental United States. Johnny Weissmuller, who later portrayed Tarzan, once supervised swimmers here.
