Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel & Casino, hotel in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
The Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel & Casino is a large hotel and casino on the Malecón in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with multiple floors of rooms, restaurants, bars, a pool, and a fitness area. Rooms face either the sea or the hotel's garden side, and the casino offers both table games and machines.
The hotel opened in the 1970s and was one of the first large properties to position Santo Domingo as a destination for international tourism and business travel. Over the following decades it was renovated and eventually brought into the Marriott Bonvoy network under the Renaissance brand.
The name Jaragua comes from a Taíno chief who once ruled over a large part of the island, keeping the memory of the island's indigenous past alive. Caribbean artwork displayed in the public areas of the hotel makes this connection visible to anyone walking through.
The hotel sits right on the Malecón, close to the Colonial Zone, so many of the city's main sights are within walking distance or a short taxi ride. Airport shuttle services and on-site parking are available for guests arriving by air or private vehicle.
The hotel is known as a popular spot for marriage proposals and has put together special packages for couples celebrating a milestone. Its position right on the seafront makes it one of the most requested venues in the city for such occasions.
