Hato Mayor del Rey is the capital municipality of Hato Mayor Province in the Dominican Republic, located roughly 110 kilometers from Santo Domingo. The town comprises three municipal districts that together form the wider community.
The settlement was founded in 1520 by Francisco Davila as farmland and later developed into a proper village in 1746 by Don Antonio Coca y Vevers Landeche. These two phases marked its transformation from isolated countryside to an organized community.
