Bonita Beach Causeway, Road bridge in Bonita Springs, Florida, US.
The Bonita Beach Causeway is a road bridge that stretches about 4.1 miles across Estero Bay, connecting Fort Myers Beach with Bonita Springs. The structure consists of four low-level sections, each crossing a different water passage through the bay.
Construction of the bridge began in 1963 following surveys and was officially opened on July 4, 1965. The project was built to improve connections between the two coastal communities.
The causeway functions as a central point for local gatherings, supporting fishing activities, photography sessions, and waterfront dining experiences throughout the year.
Driving across the bridge offers good views of the surrounding bay and wetlands along the route. Drive slowly and watch for changing traffic conditions during peak hours or when weather affects visibility.
A system of movable drawbridges at certain sections allows larger boats to pass underneath. These drawbridges are a distinctive feature of the route and sometimes require drivers to wait while boats pass through.
