Dana A. Dorsey, Miami's first Black millionaire, constructed this residence in 1913 while developing real estate throughout the Overtown neighborhood of Miami.
The house represents the advancement of African American entrepreneurship in Miami, as Dana A. Dorsey established the first Black bank and supported educational initiatives.
The Black Archives History and Research Foundation maintains the property, which underwent complete reconstruction in 1995 to serve as a community resource center.
The property connects to Fisher Island's history, as Dorsey owned that land with intentions to create a resort for wealthy Black individuals during segregation.
