Gainesville Raceway, drag strip in Florida, USA
Gainesville Raceway is a motorsport racing track in Florida featuring a straight quarter-mile concrete strip where drag racers compete side by side. The facility includes grandstands, skyboxes, a pavilion for hospitality, and a modern control tower that manages race operations.
The track opened in 1969 and began hosting the annual GatorNationals in 1970, a major drag racing event. In 1992, Kenny Bernstein became the first driver to exceed 300 mph at this track, establishing it as a record-breaking venue.
The facility is located about 8 miles north of Gainesville Regional Airport on County Road 225 and is accessible via Interstate 75. Race days are loud and smell of fuel, so ear protection and comfortable clothing are recommended for a full experience.
The facility also features a road course with turns and loops used by law enforcement, driving schools, and enthusiasts for various driving exercises. This separate area offers training opportunities beyond the standing drag racing events.
