The Eau Gallie Causeway is a four-lane bridge spanning across the Indian River Lagoon, connecting Melbourne with Indian Harbour Beach. The structure consists of a main bridge and a relief bridge that accommodate water traffic passing underneath.
The first wooden structure opened on February 22, 1926, enabling regular crossings over the lagoon in this area. The original structure was later replaced by the modern elevated bridge that serves both vehicles and boat traffic today.
The southern section near Merritt Island gained recognition as Dragon Point in 1971, marked by a green dragon figure until 2002.
The bridge offers about 55 feet (17 meters) of clearance for sailboats and other watercraft and connects Interstate 95 to the beaches. Those wanting to observe the lagoon and its wildlife can enjoy views along the crossing.
