Sylvan Hills, Residential neighborhood in Atlanta, United States
Sylvan Hills is a residential neighborhood in Atlanta that extends from Deckner Avenue to Langford Parkway and consists mainly of single-family homes and multifamily buildings. Streets throughout the area feature dense tree canopies that give the neighborhood its distinctive wooded appearance.
Development of this residential area began in 1922 when J.R. Smith and M.S. Rankin established residential properties with paved streets and sidewalks. This early planning with modern infrastructure laid the foundation for the neighborhood as it exists today.
The name Sylvan Hills refers to the thick tree canopies that define the streets throughout the area. These green corridors shape the character of the neighborhood and create a woodland feeling that visitors notice immediately when walking around.
The neighborhood is best explored on foot, as streets throughout the area feature sidewalks that are well-developed and accessible. Perkerson Park is within easy reach for outdoor activities, and regular bus service connects the area to other parts of the city.
Tyler Perry Studios, established in 2019 within Fort McPherson just adjacent to the area, spans 500 acres and operates as a major film and television production facility. This large-scale operation has become an important economic factor for the region.
