Atlanta University Center, Educational consortium in southwest Atlanta, United States
The Atlanta University Center combines four historically Black institutions: Clark Atlanta University, Spelman College, Morehouse College, and Morehouse School of Medicine. Member schools share facilities, library resources, and academic programs that expand learning opportunities for all enrolled students.
The consortium was established in 1929 when Atlanta, Morehouse, and Spelman signed an affiliation agreement to strengthen Black higher education. Over the following decades, it grew to become a major collaborative network supporting educational access for Black students.
The Robert W. Woodruff Library serves as a shared center, housing extensive collections on African American history, literature, and culture that reflect the educational mission of all member schools. Visitors can see how these materials connect the institutions' past and present identity.
The campus is located in southwest Atlanta and is walkable, with the library and central campus pathways serving as good reference points for navigation. Some buildings require permission to enter, while public spaces like the library welcome visitors during operating hours.
The consortium allows students to cross-register and take courses at any of the member institutions, giving them access to specialized programs not offered at their home school. This flexibility means a student can build an education across four different academic communities in close proximity.
