Georgia Dome, Indoor stadium in Atlanta, United States.
The Georgia Dome was a stadium in Atlanta used for numerous sporting events and other large gatherings. The structure consisted of a white Teflon-coated fiberglass membrane that stretched across a width of roughly 400 feet (122 meters) and rose to about 275 feet (84 meters).
The stadium opened in 1992 and served for 25 years as the home ground of the Atlanta Falcons football club. It was demolished in 2017 after a new stadium had been completed.
The name referred to the US state of Georgia, whose capital is Atlanta, and to the domed shape of the former venue. Visitors could attend football games as well as large religious services, trade shows and music events that regularly filled the space.
The stadium no longer exists and can now only be found in archive footage and memories. The site was cleared for other projects after the demolition.
The roof construction was among the largest of its kind worldwide and allowed for a column-free interior space. During the 1996 Olympic Games, basketball competitions and the closing ceremony took place here.
