United States Post Office and Customs House, Government building in Fairlie-Poplar District, Downtown Atlanta, United States.
The four-story federal structure occupied a complete block between Marietta, Fairlie, Walton, and Forsyth streets in downtown Atlanta, serving postal and customs operations.
Built in 1878 under architect Thomas G. Healey's direction, the building transformed into Atlanta's City Hall until 1930 before its demolition in the early 1930s.
The federal building represented the expanding role of government services in the southeastern United States during the late nineteenth century reconstruction period.
The building's central location in downtown Atlanta facilitated mail processing and customs operations for residents and merchants throughout the Georgia region.
The site of the former Post Office and Customs House was redeveloped in 1958 to create the Fulton National Bank building at 55 Marietta Street.
