Georgia State University, Public research university in Downtown Atlanta, United States
Georgia State University is a public research university in downtown Atlanta offering more than 250 degree programs to over 50,000 students across multiple colleges. The campus covers 44 hectares and connects modern classroom buildings with libraries, student housing and administrative facilities throughout the city center.
The institution began in 1913 as an evening school for working adults and gradually developed into a larger institution. After several name changes, it received its current status as Georgia State University in 1969.
The campus carries the feel of a city university, where students walk between lectures through busy streets lined with shops and restaurants. Many buildings mix academic spaces with public areas, so university life flows visibly into the everyday rhythm of the city.
The campus locations connect well with public transport, with several stations within walking distance of main buildings. Visitors can move freely through publicly accessible areas, but should note that many facilities are reserved for enrolled students.
The sports arena served as the official venue for badminton competitions during the 1996 Summer Olympics. After the games, the building was redesigned and expanded to create additional housing for students.
