Calhoun Falls State Park

Calhoun Falls State Park is a 318-acre property on Lake Russell in Abbeville County featuring multiple pine-covered peninsulas that extend into the water. The forested shoreline creates natural viewpoints and varied landscapes throughout the grounds.

The park was developed to provide recreational facilities along Lake Russell's shoreline, which was largely undeveloped before its creation. This development helped make the region accessible for leisure and outdoor activities.

The South Carolina Campground Cookoff draws camping enthusiasts who gather to demonstrate their outdoor cooking skills and share meals together. This annual gathering reflects how deeply visitors connect with outdoor traditions and community life at this location.

The park provides 86 campsites with electrical hookups and 14 walk-in tent sites for overnight guests, with boat slips available for year-round rental. These accommodations make it convenient for visitors to stay and enjoy the lake for extended periods.

The Cedar Bluff Nature Trail is a 1.75-mile loop through mixed pine and hardwood forests with wooden steps and footbridges throughout. This route gives hikers a well-built path through the woodland without steep elevation changes.
