Biggin Church

Biggin Church is a colonial church ruin near Moncks Corner composed of brick walls with architectural details including a rounded water table and arched window openings. The remains show building techniques from the early colonial period.

The building was originally constructed in 1711 and survived three major fires across its history, with the final fire in 1886 largely destroying the structure. Only the brick foundation and walls remain from these past events.

The cemetery contains gravestones from many generations of local residents and remains an active burial ground today. These markers tell the story of the families who lived in this area over centuries.

The ruin is located near Highway 402 and remains open for visitors during daylight hours without requiring tickets. Good walking shoes are recommended since the ground is uneven and an active cemetery is on the property.

The structure used Gibbs surround entrance design and corner quoins that were rarely seen in colonial South Carolina buildings of that era. These refined details suggest the congregation had significant resources to invest in the construction.
