The original plantation house, constructed before 1778, underwent complete restoration following destruction by fire in 1934, using historical photographs as reference.
The plantation structure exemplifies Greek Revival architecture and stands as evidence of agricultural practices in South Carolina's Lowcountry region.

The National Register of Historic Places listed the property in 1978 under three distinct criteria of significance: A, B, and C.
