Rainbow Court, Hotel in den Vereinigten Staaten
Rainbow Court is a historic hotel property in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The complex comprises two main motel-style buildings, five cottages, and supporting structures arranged around a central courtyard with a swimming pool.
Rainbow Court began in the mid-1940s when Harvey C. Jones and Lila Mae Bognall moved two boarding houses from the beach and added more buildings through the 1950s. It survived Hurricane Hazel in 1954, which destroyed many other coastal hotels, and earned its National Register listing in 1996.
The name Rainbow Court reflects the cheerful design intended for beach visitors in the mid-20th century. The collection of small buildings and cottages arranged around a communal pool shows how leisure travelers were once accommodated in coastal South Carolina.
Most of the property is privately owned and not open for interior visits. You can appreciate the building design and layout from the street while respecting the owners' privacy.
The property was founded by relocating two existing boarding houses from the beach rather than building from scratch. This unusual founding approach makes it a rare example of how early coastal resorts adapted existing structures.
