Mount Davidson rises 928 feet above sea level, forming the highest natural elevation point in San Francisco with trails through oak woodlands and coastal scrub.
George Davidson, a Scottish-American surveyor who examined the region in the 1800s, received recognition when the mountain was named after him following Adolph Sutro's land purchase.
The 103-foot concrete cross at the summit, constructed in 1934, stands as a memorial to World War I veterans and includes a plaque commemorating the Armenian Genocide.
The park opens daily from 6 AM to 10 PM, with street parking available near the entrances and public transportation access via the 36 Teresita Muni line.
During Easter celebrations from the 1940s through the 1970s, CBS broadcast nationwide sunrise services from the mountain's illuminated cross location.
