Dante Benedetti Diamond at Max Ulrich Field, park in San Francisco County, California, United States of America
Dante Benedetti Diamond at Max Ulrich Field is a baseball field at the University of San Francisco with seating for about 2000 spectators. The playing surface uses artificial turf with coconut husk infill and features covered areas along the baselines and behind home plate, with bleacher seats at the bases and grassy berms for casual viewing.
The field was built in 1953 and originally named Max Ulrich Field after a university donor. In 1980 it was renamed to honor Dante Benedetti, who served as head coach from 1962 to 1980 and led the program to numerous wins.
The field is woven into university life and serves as a gathering place for students and fans. During the season, a community forms around the game, where people come together to support their team.
The field is surrounded by netting to keep foul balls from leaving the immediate area. Visitors find seating options ranging from grassy areas to covered zones, with the playing surface set below street level to provide good sight lines from all vantage points.
The field underwent a complete 2015 renovation that included a 90-degree rotation, repositioning home plate to a new location. The artificial surface is the first in NCAA Division I baseball to use coconut husk infill instead of rubber, offering a more environmentally friendly alternative.
