Montalvo Arts Center

The Montalvo Arts Center is a performing arts venue housed in a Mediterranean-style mansion in Saratoga's hills. The complex features multiple theaters, formal gardens, walking paths, and art installations scattered across the expansive grounds.

A wealthy senator established this site in 1912 as a gift to California for promoting art and creative expression. Over the decades it grew into a well-known center for performances, artist training, and collaboration.

The center attracts artists working in studios throughout the grounds, with their creations displayed in exhibition spaces and performance venues. Visitors encounter a living creative community where people regularly work, create, and share their artistic ideas.

The site has free parking in multiple lots and sits about five minutes from Highways 17 and 85. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the grounds include many pathways and hillside terrain.

The original mansion dates from the early 1900s and retains many of its original architectural details and features. These older spaces have been thoughtfully adapted for modern use while keeping historical elements visible.
