Fremont Older Open Space Preserve

Fremont Older Open Space Preserve is a nature reserve in Saratoga with oak woodlands, grasslands, and chaparral vegetation across rolling terrain. A dense network of trails winds through the entire property and allows visitors to explore all landscape types.

The property was purchased in 1912 by a newspaper editor from San Francisco, who constructed a residence on the grounds. The land was later designated as a nature preserve and is now under public stewardship.

The main residence on the grounds shows modern and Bay Area architectural styles with rustic details that blend naturally into the landscape. Visitors can still see this historic dwelling and understand how earlier residents lived within this setting.

The grounds are accessible to hikers, cyclists, and riders and offer different difficulty levels on its routes. Visitors should arrive before sunset or plan to leave before dusk, as the property closes at sundown.

The highest point of the grounds offers views across the surrounding plains that extend far into the distance. Many visitors overlook this peak and explore instead the more familiar routes in lower areas.
