Fremont Older Open Space Preserve

The 739-acre preserve contains oak woodlands, grasslands, and chaparral communities spread across rolling hills with numerous hiking trails throughout the protected land.

The land was purchased in 1912 by San Francisco newspaper editor Fremont Older and his wife Cora for $10,000, who built their residence Woodhills in 1914.

The Woodhills residence, designed by architects Frank Delos Wolfe and Charles McCall, represents Modern Movement and Bay Area shingle architecture on the National Register.

The preserve maintains 14.7 miles of trails open from sunrise to sunset, with designated parking areas and routes suitable for hikers, cyclists, and equestrians.

From Hunter's Point at 900 feet elevation, visitors observe panoramic views of Silicon Valley while Maisie's Peak marks the highest point in the preserve.
