Mountain Winery

Mountain Winery is a historic winery in Saratoga featuring sandstone walls and architectural elements from a former church building originally located in San Jose. The structure sits elevated on a knoll and combines the layout of a winery with the distinctive features of this repurposed religious architecture.

Paul Masson founded this winery in 1901 and adapted operations during Prohibition by selling grapes and producing sacramental wines under special license. This adjustment allowed the vineyard to survive through the alcohol ban period.

This location became a concert venue in 1958 and has hosted performances by renowned musicians including Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett. It continues to serve as a performance space where visitors experience live music within the historic setting.

Visitors can enjoy wine tastings, attend music performances, and participate in special events throughout the year at this location. The elevated setting on a hillside offers views and natural shade, making it pleasant to spend time here regardless of the season.

The building incorporates stone blocks salvaged from the Saratoga Wine Company structure after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. These recycled materials create a direct link to one of the region's most significant historical events.
