Picchetti Brothers Winery, Historic winery complex in Cupertino, Santa Clara County, United States.
Picchetti Brothers Winery is a historic property in the hills west of Cupertino, Santa Clara County, California, with a cluster of buildings dating from the 1880s to the 1920s. The site includes vineyards, open woodland, and a restored 19th-century tasting room that remains open to visitors today.
Two Italian-born brothers, Secondo and Vincenzo Picchetti, bought the land in 1877 and built a growing wine operation over the following decades. The property was later listed on the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its role in the early wine history of Northern California.
The buildings still show how an Italian immigrant family organized daily life around wine production, from the kitchen to the cellar. Walking through the rooms, you notice tools, shelves, and ovens that reveal how work and family life were woven together on the property.
The site is best visited in dry weather, as the trails pass through open vineyards and woodland with little shade along the way. Sturdy footwear is a good idea, since the paths are unpaved and the terrain rises and falls across the hills.
The front porch of the main house was originally built as a bird enclosure, and one of the original cages from John Picchetti's bird-breeding project still stands in front of the homestead. This detail is easy to miss but says a lot about how the family used the property for personal projects beyond wine.
