Yung See San Fong House, Historic residence in Los Gatos, California, United States.
The Yung See San Fong House is a residential structure in Los Gatos that combines oriental pagoda roofs and decorative elements with western architectural features. The building dates to 1917 and merges two distinct architectural traditions into a unified design.
The house was built by Ruth Comfort Mitchell Young and her husband Sanborn Young following the success of their Broadway production The Sweetmeat Game. The project was completed during a period when Sanborn Young served as California State Senator.
The residence displays Chinese design elements such as hand-carved wooden panels with Chinese characters and a curved access road following traditional design principles. These details reflect the owners' appreciation for Eastern aesthetics and give the place a distinctive cultural character.
The property functioned as a self-sufficient farm where the owners grew vegetables and raised poultry for their household needs. This arrangement allowed the family to provide much of their own food supply and maintain independence in daily operations.
The house was a noted gathering place during Sanborn Young's time as Senator and attracted high-profile visitors. Among the guests were President Herbert Hoover and film actresses Joan and Constance Bennett.
