Carquinez Strait Light, Maritime navigation tower in Solano County, United States
The Carquinez Strait Light is a lighthouse with a square tower, balcony, and lantern room attached to a three-story cream-colored building with a red roof. The combined structure provided living spaces and office areas for those managing maritime traffic through the channel.
The light station began operations in 1910 to guide vessels through the Carquinez Strait and into the Napa River following earlier maritime development in the region. It served as a navigation aid for the increased river traffic of that era.
The keeper's quarters housed lighthouse personnel and their families who maintained the light during its operational years. The beacon served as a crucial reference point for ships navigating the narrow waterway.
The building is now private property functioning as an office and sales area at Glen Cove Marina after being moved from its original location. The site has limited public access, so viewing is best done from outside the property.
The entire 150-ton structure was transported by barge to Elliott Cove in 1955, representing a remarkable relocation feat for that era. This move allowed the lighthouse to be repurposed as a working facility rather than being demolished.
