Isleton, Historic river town in Sacramento County, United States.
Isleton is a city on Andrus Island within the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, located in Sacramento County, California. It sprawls across agricultural fields and water channels at roughly 3 meters above sea level.
The city was founded in 1874 by Josiah Poole with a wharf on the Sacramento River and received official incorporation in 1923. This growth connected it to the delta's agricultural and commercial activities.
The main street displays two distinct districts, with Chinese-owned businesses on the west side and Japanese-owned establishments on the east side. This spatial separation reflects the history of different Asian communities who lived and worked in the area.
The city is served by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, reachable at 916-874-5111 for non-emergency situations. Its flat location on Andrus Island means visitors should expect occasional flooding, particularly during the rainy season.
Three canneries operated in and near the city during its agricultural peak, processing local crops with a workforce predominantly of Asian descent. These facilities were central to the economic foundation and demographic makeup of the place.
