Blue Lakes, Lakes chain in Lake County, California
The Blue Lakes consist of two connected bodies of water, spanning three miles in length and covering over 100 acres of surface area.
During the 19th century, these lakes emerged as a destination for health tourism due to the presence of mineral springs in the surrounding area.
Native Pomo people maintained oral traditions about the lakes' formation, describing how an earthquake changed the water flow direction from Clear Lake through Cache Creek.
Visitors can access the lakes through four resorts offering accommodations, boat rentals, and day passes for activities including swimming, fishing, and paddleboarding.
The lakes receive clean groundwater input that maintains water clarity throughout the year and supports regular fish stocking programs.
