Rice Fork, Tributary in Lake County, California.
The Rice Fork extends 22.7 miles through steep canyons from Goat Mountain at 6,000 feet elevation to Lake Pillsbury in Lake County, California.
Before Scott Dam construction in the 1920s, Rice Fork flowed directly into the Eel River, with an Indian trail connecting Crabtree Hot Springs to Gravelly Valley.
The area received its name in the 1860s when a settler named Rice and neighboring ranchers used Rice Valley for their livestock grazing activities.
The Rice Fork watershed contains Bear Creek Campground, which remains accessible throughout the year and maintains essential facilities for visitors.
The Hale Ridge Research Natural Area, established in 1987 near Rice Fork, serves as a protected habitat for northern spotted owls and diverse conifer species.
