Rice Fork, Tributary in Lake County, California.

Rice Fork is a tributary that flows through steep canyons in Lake County, descending from higher mountain regions to Lake Pillsbury. The waterway passes through forested mountain terrain with dense conifer stands and numerous seasonal creeks.

Before the Scott Dam was built in the 1920s, the creek flowed directly into the Eel River. This construction project fundamentally altered how water moved through the region.

The area received its name in the 1860s when a settler named Rice and neighboring ranchers used Rice Valley for their livestock grazing activities.

The area is served by a campground that remains accessible year-round with basic facilities for visitors. Access reaches the site via established forest roads through the mountain landscape.

A protected forest reserve nearby provides refuge for rare forest birds and old-growth tree stands. The area displays natural woodlands typical of the region.
