Foris Vineyards Winery, Family winery in Cave Junction, Oregon.
Foris Vineyards is a family-owned winery operating on 255 acres of vineyard land in the Illinois Valley region of Southern Oregon, with vineyards positioned at elevations between 1,200 and 1,800 feet. The operation produces wines from European grape varieties and distributes them across multiple states and countries.
Ted Gerber established the vineyard in 1974 initially as a grape grower supplying other producers, then partnered with his wife Meri to found Foris Vineyards Winery in 1986 as an independent producer. This shift from growing grapes for others to making wine themselves marked a significant turning point for the operation.
The winery specializes in grape varieties from Alsace and Burgundy that have defined its approach to winemaking since its early years. These varieties represent a deliberate connection to European wine traditions that visitors can taste in the finished products.
The tasting room is open daily during midday and afternoon hours, allowing visitors to sample wines and explore the facilities. Those traveling to the southern Oregon region can reach this location conveniently and plan their visit with standard wine country hours in mind.
Ted Gerber was part of just six pioneering Oregon growers who received the first French clones of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Gewürztraminer in 1977. This rare opportunity allowed the operation to cultivate grape varieties that were exceptionally uncommon in the region at that time.
