Andrew Lambert established the gardens in 1930 after moving from Georgia, purchasing land from Reed College to create this horticultural destination.
The gardens hosted Rose Festival celebrations each June, offering a dedicated space for the elected queen and court photographs.
Located at 5120 SE 28th Avenue, the gardens remained open until 1968, receiving an estimated total of two million visitors throughout its operation.
The gardens maintained a collection of exotic birds, including peacocks, flamingos, and rare specimens like Crown, Demoiselle, and Stanley cranes.
