Mount Ellinor, Mountain summit in Mason County, United States
Mount Ellinor is a summit in the Olympic Mountains standing at 1814 meters with two distinct hiking routes through dense forests and rocky terrain. The trails move through changing landscapes with open sections and wooded areas.
The mountain was named in 1853 by surveyor George Davidson after his fiancée Ellinor Fauntleroy. Davidson also named nearby peaks after other family members of hers.
The mountain attracts hikers and photographers who observe the mountain goat population and document seasonal changes throughout the year. Visitors regularly encounter these animals on the slopes and rocky areas.
The less steep route starts at 793 meters and runs about 10 kilometers, while the steeper route begins at 1067 meters and is shorter. Hikers should consider different fitness levels and goals when choosing.
Winter months bring significant snowfall on the steep slopes, making specialized avalanche training necessary for safe travel. These conditions significantly affect hiking conditions and safety on the mountain.
